Edgar "Ray" Moody, 89, of Kingsport, passed away at 7:37 p.m., Wednesday, (October 10, 2012) at Wexford House after a courageous battle with cancer. Ray was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on April 9, 1923 and was the son of William and Ollie Moody. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Moody served in the United States Army and was a POW in World War II. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1985. His greatest joy was his family. Edgar "Ray" Moody, 89, of Kingsport, passed away at 7:37 p.m., Wednesday, (October 10, 2012) at Wexford House after a courageous battle with cancer. Ray was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on April 9, 1923 and was the son of William and Ollie Moody. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Moody served in the United States Army and was a POW in World War II. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1985. His greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted Dad and Papaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Ray loved to garden, was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Trula Reed Moody, his parents William and Ollie Moody, brothers Clifton Moody, Jim Moody, Clay Moody, and Bill Moody. Survivors include his sons, Edgar "Ray" Moody, Jr. and wife Kathy, Harvey Moody and wife Marlene, Jerry Moody and wife Vicki, Spencer Moody and wife Kim; grandchildren, Chandra Campbell and husband Dustin, Rachel Livingston and husband David, Kayla, MaKenzie, and Ethan Moody; great-grandchildren, Raylee Livingston and expecting Baby Girl Campbell; brother, J.B. Moody and wife Ida; sisters, Margie Jennings and husband Lester, Louise Williams; several nieces, nephews, and other family members. Serving as pallbearers will be his sons; and Gary Moody and Eddie Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be J.B. Moody, John Strickler, Bob Peters, Ruble Reed and J.C. Renfro.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Travis Boling and Pastor Bob Ferguson officiating. Graveside Military Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012 at East Lawn Memorial Park.
