James "Jay" Edward Booher, age 94 of Blountville, went home to be with the Lord and his wife, Lela, peacefully at his residence, on November 26, 2016 surrounded by his family. James was born on June 7, 1922 in Spears Ferry, VA to the late Bertha and Edward Booher, and he has resided in Blountville for most of his life.

James worked for Eastman Kodak for over 40 years before retiring, and he was a charter member of Indian Springs Baptist Church. "Jay" served in the United States Navy on the USS Nassau, CVE-16,...

James "Jay" Edward Booher, age 94 of Blountville, went home to be with the Lord and his wife, Lela, peacefully at his residence, on November 26, 2016 surrounded by his family. James was born on June 7, 1922 in Spears Ferry, VA to the late Bertha and Edward Booher, and he has resided in Blountville for most of his life.

James worked for Eastman Kodak for over 40 years before retiring, and he was a charter member of Indian Springs Baptist Church. "Jay" served in the United States Navy on the USS Nassau, CVE-16, and received five Battle Stars for his service in WWII. Jay was a true family man, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was most happy serving others, and on his tractor.

James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Lela Marie Booher; four sisters, Mary, Mable, Emily, and Louise; and his three brothers, Bill, Lindsey, and Joe. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Brenda Carter and husband Dean; grandson, Michael Wagoner and wife Christina of Marietta, GA; granddaughter, Lori Camp and husband Greg of Carrollton, GA; great-grandchildren, Barrett Wagoner, Addison Camp, Logan Camp, and Maxton Camp; a host of special nieces, nephews; and special friends, Joan Cannon, Polly Leonard, Dottie Carr, and Kathy Woods.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 2, 2016 in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral with Pastor Lyons Smith officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Wagoner, Greg Camp, Scott Miller, Larry Miller, Phil Brumit, and Tim Hughes. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be James Griffin, Jackie Martin, and Michael Booher.
